As a part of a simulated creative agency task, I was given a brief to create a solution to solve a hypothetical issue to be presented at World Expo 2050. It was a collaborative task, and my role in the task was to design all visual assets and brand identity. Hive Living was born from this exercise. It's a conceptual brand that exists to provide a new way of living that works in better balance with the environment and the pollinators that it relies on, reminiscent of bee populations and how they live together while ensuring to continue the ecological cycle that we as humans rely on for food. The brief required a core logo, as well as secondary logos for the brand's five hypothetical properties, these being accommodation, ambassadors, community, sponsorship and conservation.
The logo was designed to symbolise the honeycomb structure of beehives, with a playful typeface that acts as a hopeful reminder that together we can change the world for the better of both people and the natural environment that we inhabit. It was designed to appear friendly and approachable, as this logo would appear in many areas of the public space and therefore would be recognisable. The logotype is accompanied by five individual Combs, resembling a honeycomb shape that has been halved. The design is contemporary and reflective of an example of how logos can look in the year 2050, as it has been designed with versatility at the front of mind.
In order to deliver a solution that ties in the brand's additional properties, the centre-most comb is interchangeable with colours that are reflective of these properties, as well as its name below the original logotype.
